At Jaz in the City, we like to source our products from as close as possible. Not only because it is more sustainable but it also supports the communities around the hotel. So when we had the opportunity to visit Brouwerij Kleiburg (The Kleiburg Brewery, which is a short bike or metro ride away) we made sure to hip hop on over!
Alright, here's some background information. The Kleiburg Brewery came about as a way to finance the Klei Klooster (Clay Monastery) which gives refuge to single mothers in need. The monastery started brewing after someone jokingly asked if they had plans to brew since that is what monasteries did in the past. The monastery saw it as a challenge and now they run a business that not only makes great beer but also supports the monastery with its profits!
They have their own brew master and actually brew their beer in Amsterdam. You should give them a visit when you're in town. They have a restaurant/bar attached to the brewery called “De Proefzaak”. It is a cozy place with lots of natural light that radiates eco and community friendly business vibes.
How does Jaz in the City Amsterdam fit in with this? Well, we also have their beer in our bar! We are in love with their fresh and fruity Sicilian White Beer. It has a light bitterness and flavours of lemon and orange. Whether you grab a beer at Rhythms Bar & Kitchen or visit the brewery, you'll drink tasty beer while supporting a good cause!
